Roberson Wine and LDN CRU: A trip to an urban winery

Earlier in the year we refreshed our wine list, a process that we undertake over a period of a few weeks, and which involves tasting hundreds of wines before making our final decision – then begins the task of writing descriptions for all 100+ wines! As part of this lengthy process we visited Roberson Wine, a long-term wine partner of English’s, and one of the UK’s finest wine merchants.

Ordinarily we invite our suppliers to come to the restaurant for wine tasting afternoons, but in March we took a trip to Earls Court, London to visit Roberson Wines’ offices to meet the team and taste 15 wines, including Bourgogne Rouge La Taupe 2013, which you’ll find on our new wine list, available by the glass, carafe or bottle.

After an afternoon of wine tasting we were taken into the bowels of the building for a tour of the UK’s first urban winery, LDN CRU. Buying in grapes from France, Italy and the UK, London Cru are producing their own wine right here in the capital, using pioneering methods and cutting edge technology in a stunning location.

Here are a few photos from our trip:

Thank you to Roberson Wine for a fantastic afternoon of tasting, and to London Cru for giving us a tour of their impressive winery.
