Stopham Wines Now Listed at English’s

We are delighted to now be listing Stopham Vineyard wines at English’s. Rather than us trying to explain how delightful they are – which they truly are! – we asked Marie Davies, Business Development Manager at Stopham, to tell us the company’s back story and which of their wines will be available at English’s.

“We are a 15 acre vineyard based in the South Downs National Park just outside of Pulborough, West Sussex. We have 21,000 vines planted on south facing slopes in free draining sandy soil.
Our owner and winemaker, Simon Woodhead, trained as an engineer and had a successful career working for TAG McLaren F1 but then after a stint living in Spain, he decided to follow his passion for wine making. He planted the vineyard in 2007 and had the first commercial harvest in 2010.Sopham-2

We are specialists in the production of aromatic still white wines (Bacchus, Pinot Blanc and Pinot Gris) and we also produce a traditional method sparkling wine, our Brut Prestige.

Our wines have won many awards, including the trophy for best English still wine for the last 3 years at the IEWA (Independent English Wine Awards) and the Stopham Pinot Blanc was also enjoyed on the Royal Barge for the Queen’s Jubilee celebrations back in 2012.

Regarding English’s, knowing that they are big supporters of English wine, I approached them last year to introduce our hand crafted, sustainable wines from Sussex which pair beautifully with fish and shellfish. It’s been a long time in the making but we finally launched in May and now are delighted to say they are listing our:

  • Limited release barrel fermented Pinot Blanc 2019
  • Stopham Pinot Gris
  • Stopham Bacchus

We are truly delighted to be working with the very friendly team at English’s and feel honoured to be featuring on the impressive list of this long standing, much loved Brighton establishment.”
